Data Capture and Auto Fill Extension

Overview

Designed and developed a browser extension that allows users to capture data from any website and seamlessly auto-fill forms on another website. The extension enhances efficiency by intelligently storing, parsing, and mapping user-selected data for quick retrieval and autofill.

My Responsibilities

• Added data storage system using the browser's local storage, ensuring efficient data retrieval and persistence across sessions.
• Developed a user-friendly popup UI, displaying parsed data dynamically with an option to clear data.
• Implemented a flexible auto-fill mechanism, dynamically detecting and populating form fields based on multiple name attribute variations to maximize compatibility across different websites.
• Optimized input detection to handle various field types (text, email, phone, date, etc.).
• Integrated a seamless communication bridge between the popup and content scripts using Chrome's message-passing API, enabling smooth data transmission for auto-filling.
• Added support for additional form fields and improving error handling for unmatched inputs.
• Refactored the performance, reducing redundant operations and optimizing data-matching logic.

Challenges & Solutions

Developing a flexible auto-fill mechanism that could work across different websites with varying form structures and field naming conventions was a significant challenge. Additionally, ensuring proper data parsing and mapping required careful implementation.
